Just a stone's throw from the old Landgrave's Castle, i.e. below Kassel's landmark Hercules in the heart of the Wilhelmshöhe mountain park (which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2013), gourmets from near and far will find a stylish oasis of good taste in Claudio Carciola's Alte Wache restaurant.

The philosophy of the Old Guard is as simple as it is successful. Only the best, fresh ingredients, preferably from the region, are used in pots and pans, sometimes classically prepared, sometimes with a special twist, to spoil the taste buds of the guests with culinary delights. The tasteful ambience of the historic building as well as a courteous, friendly service do the rest, so that you forget the time during your visit and feel welcome like in the typical Italian extended family.

HIGHEST CULINARY ART

Since its reopening in 2016, the Alte Wache in Kassel Wilhelmshöhe has been convincing with authentic Italian cooking passion and regional products at the highest level. Guests enjoy the sight of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and let their palate be enchanted with the homemade specialties. Monthly changing season tickets as well as new drinks always make a visit to the Alte Wache an unforgettable experience. And if you want to take the pleasure home with you, this is no problem: for several years now, the Carciola family has been selling their delicatessen with products such as olive oil from their own cultivation in Sicily or pasta from their own production under the brand “Gusto & Passione” for the home. Numerous free parking areas around the Alte Wache make parking uncomplicated and free of charge. Directly below the Alte Wache there is also a free guest car park.

FEASTING IN THE HISTORIC BUILDING

The red brick building of the Old Guard with Doric columns was built at the time of Elector Wilhelm II of Hesse and was built according to the plans of the court architect Johann Conrad Bromeis in the Berlin style from 1824-1826.

Since the 1950s, there has been a café in the Alte Wache. Then as now, it is a place to linger, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. In the Alte Wache you can meet up with friends, relax and enjoy the cozy atmosphere.

Brand new is the sheltered terrace area “herb garden” for up to 12 people, which can be booked exclusively from May to September.
