Baurs Park in Hamburg-Blankenese is known for its picturesque serpentine paths, breathtaking views of the Elbe River and even as far as the Harburg Mountains. The history of the park dates back to the early 1800s, when the Altona merchant and shipowner conference councillor Georg Friedrich Baur acquired a total of eleven plots of land on the Elbe slope in Blankenese. An outstanding feature of the park are the English-style grounds. Numerous small architectures, including a Chinese pagoda, a Japanese umbrella and an artificial castle ruin, found their place in the park. Although many of these buildings are documented in paintings, they are no longer preserved today.

The highlight of the park is the late classicist country house, which Georg Friedrich Baur had built on his estate between 1829 and 1836. This magnificent two-storey building with a sandstone base and a rectangular floor plan was listed as a historical monument in 1940, together with the portal and the farm building. Even the Danish royal couple was received here four years after its completion.

The current owner of the “Katharinenhof” at Mühlenberger Weg 33 is a private investor. Baurs Park is not only a place steeped in history, but also an important garden monument. The park’s care and development concept aims to restore lost qualities, including environmental concerns, and preserve the park for the future.
