Characterized by its central counter, Izakaya by Dokuwa follows the concept of a tachinomi bar, which literally means "stand and drink." It is a friendly and uncomplicated place where guests come together in a cozy confinement to enjoy small meals and drinks. The chefs prepare the dishes at the counter, and the guests share the delicious and freshly prepared delicacies, which gives the place the character of a Japanese tapas bar. Izakaya by Dokuwa is not only a place to eat and drink, but also a place of gathering and cultural exchange, expressing the love of Japanese tradition and culinary art in every dish and drink.

In Hamburg’s Karolinenviertel, an authentic piece of Japanese food culture was recently brought to life at Izakaya by Dokuwa. The story began with Café by Dokuwa in the heart of the neighborhood, which was located in a tiny shop that once served as a newsstand. Here, Ken and Iko already offered deliciously stocked take-away bento boxes alongside high-quality coffee specialties. But the idea of opening a classic Japanese izakaya bar stuck with her. After finding the right shop near the café, the renovation and opening of Izakaya by Dokuwa followed.
