Anyone who knows Marcella Breugl knows that nothing works for her without a leopard print. She has been running her own interior design office in the centre of Munich’s museum district for almost six years. Her passion is the combination of different materials, shapes and colours. Natural stone meets textiles or velvety fabrics meet eye-catching patterns, resulting in an eclectic mix that makes every room unique. Whether it’s about showcasing your grandmother’s heirloom or designing a completely new, empty shop – in the end, every room should reflect the corporate identity and express personalities. Just like herself. The name Malluvia is Latin and means “small sink” – “that’s to be understood with a wink,” laughs Marcella. And yet it is inevitably linked to her way of working and runs through all Malluvia designs.
Marcella gets her inspiration from films, looking at art in the surrounding galleries and museums, travelling, but her large, interdisciplinary network also gives her “a lot of creative input”, as she says. The current edition of Callways “The most beautiful bars, restaurants and hotels 2024” proves her right. The cookery school by Ali Güngörmüs in Munich, designed by Malluvia, took second place. “The designed space becomes an experience that elegantly celebrates the culinary pleasures of cooking and cultural roots,” said the jury. Traditions and her personal roots, which lie in Stuttgart, are also important to Marcella. Even as a little girl, she was fascinated by the flowered wallpaper in her grandparents’ house. They were interior decorators and dressmakers, and Marcella is convinced that this is where her love of textiles originated. She therefore sees it as a tribute to her grandparents that she has had a “Grandma’s Flowers” carpet collection since May 2024 and is selling her own products for the first time under the name Malluvia Furniture. Her insider tips are also a colourful mix and yet a common thread is recognisable – in true Malluvia style.
