There, just before Rottach-Egern in a prominent location, the main road from Munich leads towards Austria – please turn right and marvel at the renovated splendour from the 19th century. Even as a child, Korbinian Kohler, owner of the Bachmair Weissach Group, used to play there with his brother while his father had a business lunch at the Gasthof zur Weissach. Much has changed since then, of course, but there is always a touch of tradition – in the most positive sense.
Kohler succeeds in transcending generations and cultures and creating a place that conveys a sense of home but is absolutely modern in design. Or: quiet luxury with a large dash of Bavarian warmth.
“I see the creation of experiences as the core of my work.” ~ Korbinian Kohler
A mixture of black slate, elaborate panelling and handmade Tegernsee furniture made from natural wood. Original floors from the 19th century meet bold accents in orange – Kohler’s favourite colour. In general, great emphasis is placed on details and regionality, both in the interior and in the kitchen.
Ludwig Thoma and Ludwig Ganghofer once sat in the historic parlours of the “Gasthof zur Weissach” restaurant to discuss events “in the valley”, as the locals affectionately call Lake Tegernsee, over a hearty Bavarian meal. In addition to upscale Bavarian cuisine, such as Tegernsee char, the Mizu Sushi Restaurant combines urban flair with Japanese specialities. The state-of-the-art Mizu Sushi Bar is the only Japanese restaurant on Lake Tegernsee. In the cold season, a fondue evening in the Kreuther Stubn is just the thing – unpretentious, traditional and exactly that perfect blend of tradition, aesthetics and zeitgeist that makes the Bachmair Weissach what it is. A place where you can forget the fast pace of everyday life and indulge in the timeless, so that you can consciously savour those moments of happiness.
