The Stuttgart State Opera is one of the most renowned opera houses in Europe. It is part of the Württemberg State Theatre, the largest multi-genre theatre in Europe. Since 1994, this unique management model has been successfully applied: the Stuttgart State Opera, the Stuttgart Drama and the Stuttgart Ballet each work independently in artistic and economic terms under the direction of their artistic directors. The management of the joint operation is the responsibility of the Managing Director Marc-Oliver Hendriks.

The Stuttgart State Opera has a significant influence on contemporary music theatre and is considered one of the world’s leading opera houses. Here, a conscious emphasis is placed on ensemble theatre. The Staatsoper has around 320,000 visitors per season, of which about 32,000 are regular subscribers.

In addition, since the 2018/19 season, the Nord has been added to the repertoire as an additional venue. This is where JOiN, the young section of the Staatsoper, finds its place. JOiN sees itself as a place of encounter and artistic creation for people of all ages. In the Liederhalle, the Stuttgart State Orchestra offers seven symphony concerts and seven chamber concerts per season, often with renowned soloists and guest artists.
