At the Willkomm-Höft, a unique ship greeting facility on the Elbe, you can experience maritime magic in its purest form. Since the historic moment in June 1952, when the first sounds of “Welcome to Hamburg, we look forward to welcoming you to the Port of Hamburg” resounded across the waters, the Willkomm-Höft has become a true treasure for shipping lovers. More than 1000 large ships from all over the world were welcomed and bid farewell here with their national anthems. Over 150 national anthems are played, while experienced welcome captains share valuable information about each arriving ship in the command center. With over 17,000 index cards and the daily port report, they always have the latest details at their fingertips.
The impressive 40-metre-high steel mast proudly displays the flags of Hamburg, Germany, Schleswig-Holstein and the Signal UW (We wish you a safe journey). This majestic spectacle is open to all guests free of charge every day, around the clock. For an exclusive experience, you can visit the restaurant “Das NEUE Schulauer Fährhaus”, the beer garden or the fish stall, where all the information about the passing ships is available. Guests can enjoy an extensive selection of food, ranging from breakfast buffets to homemade cakes. Willkomm-Höft – where history, hospitality and maritime heritage come together in a fascinating way.
