The name of the bar comes from the Stuttgart wood painter Johannes Mack, who at the beginning of the 19th century practiced the now extinct craft of wood painting. Little did he know, of course, that many years later a bar would be named after him and his workshop.
The façade is inconspicuous, the door made of solid wood, here you can experience the design of the 1920s, the Bauhaus style and the present.
Our mural in the lounge and the special story behind it:
The style of jungle painting comes from Henri Rousseau, a famous painter of the 1920s. In reference to Josephine Baker, who was known in the 1920s for her extraordinary performances in banana skirt. For many women at the time, she was considered a role model for a self-determined, independent woman. Later, in the 1980s, the “Guerrilla Girls” movement emerged, with women wearing gorilla masks protesting for women’s rights in the art scene. Especially here, in the Leonhardsviertel, it is important for us to draw attention to the independence and self-determination of women. Our bar is designed to help further open up the neighborhood to a fresh crowd without neglecting its special history.

The artist of our mural is Elin Doka.
