The Deutsche Oper am Rhein, an outstanding theatre in Germany's cultural region, offers first-class performances in Düsseldorf and Duisburg. With an impressive ensemble of soloists, a respected choir and the internationally acclaimed Ballett am Rhein, it is a centre for music theatre and dance in Europe, attracting not only the residents of Düsseldorf and Duisburg, but also guests from all over the region.

The Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf Duisburg gGmbH is an important theatre in the cultural region of Germany. The theatre community of the cities of Düsseldorf and Duisburg was founded in 1956 and has since been one of the most renowned opera houses in the country. With a top-class ensemble of soloists, a respected choir and the internationally acclaimed Ballett am Rhein, it has established itself as one of the leading addresses for music theatre and dance in Europe.

More than 280 events take place annually in the two venues, the Düsseldorf Opera House and the Duisburg Theatre. The programme includes opera, operetta, ballet, contemporary music theatre, repertoire for young audiences, gala concerts and many other special events. With a total capacity of around 2,400 spectators, these two theatres offer venues for first-class artistic performances.

Since 2009, General Director Prof. Christoph Meyer has steered the fortunes of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein together with General Music Director Axel Kober, and since the 2020/21 season with Ballet Director and Chief Choreographer Demis Volpi. Under the management of Alexandra Stampler-Brown, the management team pursues the goal of continuously raising the artistic level, preserving the musical tradition and at the same time exploring new artistic horizons. The Deutsche Oper am Rhein is thus a place of cultural diversity and artistic excellence in one of the most populous regions in Germany.
