E-MOBILITY OF THE FUTURE

Combustion engines are to be phased out in just a few years. As a result, the share of newly sold electric cars in the overall market will increase from around 13 percent today to 100 percent. As is well known, this is a major problem, especially for traditional manufacturers. With their insistence on combustion vehicles, they are facing increasingly strong competition from abroad.

Burning fossil fuels to power a vehicle is not a solution for the future. Despite everything, people in Germany still buy vehicles with combustion engines or hybrid vehicles. It’s hard to understand, because the range of electric vehicles is growing steadily. It is also important that we find smaller electric cars on offer for use in our urban centres.

THE EXPANSION OF NATIONWIDE CHARGING STATIONS

Experts recommend that drivers of electric vehicles download an app that allows them to locate the charging stations in their area. Further public expansion depends, among other things, on the willingness of petrol station operators and potential partners. Dealers are also allowed to have wallboxes installed on their properties to provide an additional service to their customers. While consumers are shopping with electric cars, their electric cars are charging outside. Supermarkets, shopping centres, sports fields, swimming pools: wherever the electric vehicle is parked for a longer period of time, charging stations and charging infrastructure are being built. After shopping, nothing stands in the way of continuing your journey.

ENERGY TRANSITION INFLUENCES TRANSPORT TRANSITION

The majority of motorists are interested in using green electricity, i.e. electricity produced from renewable sources, in their vehicles. In Germany, the share of this green electricity is now more than 50 percent. And yet it will be important that we break down the hurdles that often exist in setting up charging infrastructure in the coming years. If sustainable energy production is further slowed down, this will significantly inhibit the goals set to produce and sell almost exclusively electric vehicles by 2030. By the end of the decade, one million charging stations are to be put into operation in Germany alone.

BATTERIES AS ENERGY STORAGE

If the requirements are met, the switch is already worthwhile. With their own photovoltaic system, households can produce electricity that they can feed into the grid. Electricity producers can sell the additional electricity generated or store it for themselves. This is a good way to produce your own electricity to supply energy to your electric car without having to rely on an external service provider. Above all, it is a matter of rethinking usage behaviour and using available energy more efficiently. In the future, new batteries will be designed to also serve as storage because the volume of energy will be compressed.

THE DIFFERENT CHARGING STRATEGIES

Many people who own a smartphone no longer charge the battery directly from the mains with a cable, they use Wifi or Bluetooth. This is already possible today, for example, with a smart #1. Although a charging card and charging cable are included with every smart e-car, thanks to the latest technology, this is only necessary if third-party charging stations are accessed. The advantage is that several vehicles can charge their vehicle battery at the same time at one charging station. Even with fast charging, the process takes around 15 minutes. The fast chargers from IONITY or FastNed will then supply mainly on long-haul routes. And these can also be covered with the smaller electric cars at the given ranges.
