It is considered the most important place of worship of Buddhism in Western Europe and is the center of the Buddhist religion. You enter the temple through the Elephant Gate, climb 73 steps and pass the eight landings that symbolize Buddha’s eightfold path to salvation. At the top are the house with an extensive library, the temple and the beautiful garden.
“Everyone is invited, everyone is welcome…” to this quiet place of Far Eastern spirituality. The Berlin physician and writer Paul Dahlke had the Buddhist House built in 1922 and 1924 for the Buddhist community he founded on the highest point of Frohnau.
The temple and library are open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. In addition to regular meditation courses, guided tours and lectures are also offered. Admission is free and the silence in the temple is very relaxing. Experience and understand the motto of the Buddhist House: “What we do, everyone should be able to see. We want everyone to hear what we say. We want everyone to know what we think. (Dr. Paul Dahlke)”.
