The Maritime Museum also offers glimpses into the navigation methods of bygone eras, including hand-painted crown compasses and gleaming gold sextants. The exhibition illustrates how sailors communicated well into the 20th century, including with a "radio booth", Morse code and signal books. Impressive models represent various strands of development in seafaring, from Phoenician galleys and Roman triremes to Viking dragon boats, Hanseatic cogs and explorer caravels to the last windjammers. The Maritime Museum also offers various event spaces and a wide range of events, including guided tours, lectures and tours of the nine themed decks, as well as special events and activities for children and young people.

The International Maritime Museum in Hamburg, housed in the listed Kaispeicher B, presents an impressive journey through 3,000 years of seafaring history. On nine exhibition decks, visitors can admire valuable exhibits, ship models and paintings that document the fascinating development of shipping. The exhibition begins with historical globes and nautical charts, which illustrate the development of the worldview over time. A special highlight is a copy of the “Atlantis Majoris” from 1657, the first marine atlas printed in the Netherlands.
