Before it was a home for monks in the former Jesuit monastery, it was once a farm, some of which dates back to the 12th century. Today, after a long and thoughtful restoration, it is a sustainable, eco-conscious hotel, nestled among the citrus, olive, almond groves and vineyards of the 40-hectare agricultural estate. Son Brull is easily accessible by car in the north of Mallorca (about 40 minutes from Palma) in the region known as the agricultural centre of Mallorca, picturesquely situated between Pollença, the Serra de Tramuntana and the beautiful hidden coves of Cap de Formentor.
A monastic retreat, the sleek modernist accents and sun-kissed sophistication narrate the interior design concept of lead architect and designer Ignacio Forteza. His studio drew on materials such as black-tinted concrete, gold leaf, raw oak, rusted iron, stonework and the humble pebble, which harmonize with the hotel’s natural surroundings and the island’s agricultural history. Expect abstract artistic elements that merge with a patina of agricultural tradition. Recently, the talents of Estudio Carme Pinós in Barcelona have created private villas within the landscaped gardens and a new fabulous spa.
There is undoubtedly an atmosphere of quiet serenity inside that runs through this culinary and wellness retreat. The Sanctuary Hotel was designed for today’s urban connoisseurs, essentially in the spirit of the times.
The Son Brull Hotel & Spa in Pollença, Mallorca – created by a family with passion and deep respect for the island, creates a chilled luxury retreat of soul and awe. Splendid.
