In 2009 , the small alpine town of Bruneck in the Pustertal Valley was named "Italy's most liveable small town ". Italy's most liveable small town " in 2009 and boasts historic buildings, cafés, wine bars and its proximity to the mountains. The 4-star Hotel Petrus is located in the Reischach district of Bruneck, at the foot of the Kronplatz. The family business has been run by the Aichner family for four decades. Today, the three sisters - Christina, Brigitte and Daniela - are responsible for the hotel. Brigitte is a trained sommelier and gourmet, Christina coordinates the hotel operations and Daniela is at reception or works behind the scenes in marketing.

With its curved façade , the Hotel Petrus Petrus naturally blends in with the Kronplatz mountain massif. Guests have an unobstructed view of the Dolomites from here. In the two in-house restaurants, one of which has been honoured by Gault Millau, a culinary journey through South Tyrolbegins. Most of the fruit and vegetables come from their own garden, which the parents of the three sisters, Gerti and Hans, tend and nurture with passion.

The spacious spa area with a 25-metre indoor-outdoor pool and five saunas offers regional and individual wellness treatments. If you want to relax while knitting, grab the colourful knitting kit available in the wellness area. The three Petrus sisters have plenty of creative ideas: these can be found in the spa as well as throughout the hotel and the Petrus offers. For example, there is the sewing wall with colourful yarn that guests can take from the hotel wall and mend holes in their clothes or the Secret Picnic, a kind of treasure hunt that leads to secret places in the area where a lovingly filled picnic basket is waiting. 49 stylishly furnished rooms and suites Each of the rooms at Hotel Petrus is individually furnished and the suites boast special highlights such as an outdoor bathtub or outdoor sleeping facilities. The double rooms at Hotel Petrus measure between 21 m² and 38 m². Some of the rooms are equipped with hanging loungers or whirlpool baths, others offer views of the Kronplatz or the large hotel garden, which blends seamlessly into the surrounding meadows.

The box room is 31 m² in size. On the loggia balcony, guests can marvel at the view from the outdoor whirlpool, which invites you to take a dip in both summer and winter. The hotel’s suites are between 34 m² and 60 m² in size and, depending on the suite, await guests with free-standing whirlpool tubs, outdoor Jacuzzis or infrared saunas. The family suites at Hotel Petrus are ideal for families, offering guests with children plenty of space on a floor area of between 31 m² and 63 m². Separate sleeping areas provide retreats for the individual family members, where they can relax after an eventful day.

Excellent and regional: food drink

It has always been important to the Aichners that the family gathers around the table to eat together. That’s why the family meets at the big table every lunchtime. To ensure that everyone stays seated at the table for dinner and breakfast and enjoys good food and conversation, there is no buffet at Hotel Petrus – all dishes are served. What South Tyrol has to offer is served on the plate. The quality of the products takes centre stage: much of the food is homemade, the kitchen team focuses on natural, regional cuisine with organic products and local producers. Produce from the hotel’s own garden is also used in the hotel’s kitchens. Hans Aichner looks after the family’s vegetable garden at the Lechnerhof. Here he grows herbs, lettuce, radishes and many other types of vegetables that are used in the restaurants at Hotel Petrus. In summer, guests can visit the garden and look over the shoulder of the senior boss and hobby gardener.

The hotel’s own gourmet restaurant Kaminstube was awarded two toques by Gault Millau with two toques and received 88 out of 100 Falstaff Travel points . points. Head chef Hannes Baumgartner creates first-class South Tyrolean specialities. Here, hearty Tyrolean cuisine meets the lightness of Mediterranean influences.

Once a week, the chef invites guests to a tasting menu. Brigitte Aichner, a qualified sommelier, recommends suitable South Tyrolean wines and explains the specialities of the 120 varieties in the hotel’s wine cellar. This also includes the optimum drinking temperature of the wines, which is always guaranteed thanks to the wine cellar between the dining room and bar.

Gourmet friendship with three-star Michelin chef Norbert Niederkofler

Three-star Michelin chef Norbert Niederkofler and the Aichner family have been friends for many years, from which Petrus guests also benefit. If you would like to spend an evening at Atelier Moessmer, one of the coveted tables will be reserved for you and a small surprise awaits Petrus guests there as a welcome gift.

The hotel’s spa area

The sisters’ creative fingerprint can also be felt in the spacious spa area. The hotel’s own Water Wood Gym is equipped with elegant training equipment, most of which is made of wood and works using water resistance instead of electricity. Local natural products are also used in the spa area: The relaxation room is lined with Swiss stone pine, tired feet are massaged with cherry stones on the foot reflexology bench and real mountain meadow hay smells in the hay barn.

In the “Lana” relaxation room, guests experience the positive power of South Tyrolean sheep’s wool, which enters into an effective liaison with peat, willow bark, Swiss stone pine shavings, linen and medicinal herbs. Swiss stone pine and mountain meadow hay from the surrounding mountain pastures are also used in the spa area to help you relax. And if you find it hard to relax, you can reach for the knitting kit that the three sisters provide for their guests. Half of the 25 metre long, 30 °C indoor and outdoor pool is in the fresh air, the other half under a covered area including an XXL couch. In summer, you can enjoy the good weather, while in winter you can admire the snowy surroundings from the warm water. Next to the large pool is the 35°C relaxation whirlpool.

The Kronplatz: activities and regions in the heart of South Tyrol

In Bruneck, elegant flair meets typical South Tyrolean life: The area is known for its architecture, diverse cultural and leisure activities and impressive scenery. Hotel Petrus offers its guests the opportunity to explore the ski area easily with a private ski hire service and a shuttle service to the Kronplatz cable car, which is 500 metres from the hotel. From the Hernegg black piste, a beautiful path leads through the forest to the hotel. This piste is snow-sure, meaning that after a leisurely day on the piste, Petrus guests can always ski straight back to their holiday home. Hikers and cyclists will find suitable tours in the surrounding mountains and valleys, which lead past alpine pastures, lakes and peaks. Thanks to its location, Hotel Petrus is an ideal starting point: seven of the surrounding valleys are within easy reach. Guided hikes are also offered from Monday to Friday.
