With wine, it’s love at first sip, with these wine glasses it was heart palpitations at first sight. Wow – that was my first thought when I tasted an elegant wine from the new “Josephine” collection for the first time. I tried to grasp the shape, followed the contours and lines and just thought: How do these glasses work? Because, of course, form also has a function. An excellent one, in fact. After the “Iconic Award: Innovative Interior”, the Josephinenhütte has already received another important award this year for its hand-blown glass collection “Josephine”: the Red Dot Design Award. With around 6,000 submissions, the competition, initiated by Professor Dr. Peter Zec, is considered one of the largest and most prestigious awards in the international design world. The coveted seal of quality is only awarded to products that stand out for their outstanding design – Fischermann.Media in Stuttgart created the texts for the books.
“The JOSEPHINE is the best glass I have ever created!”
Kurt Josef Zalto, glassmaker in 6. Generation
Behind the new design wine glass is the designer Kurt Josef Zalto. The Austrian glass designer has already set standards worldwide with the invention of glass, and around 20 years later he has been breathing new life into the Josephinenhütte brand, which is known for its extravagant glass art of the 19th century, since 2018. Light, filigree and flexible – typical of the signature of the renowned glass designer. In addition, Kurt Josef Zalto has calculated the wafer-thin drinking bowl down to the smallest detail and provided it with a unique kink that harmoniously combines form and function. Because with his glasses, he was never concerned with pure aesthetics, but always with the optimal development of the wine. And how? The carefully shaped rim ensures that part of the wine that rises on the rim of the glass due to the movement is broken and then flows back into the glass in a spiral motion. In this way, the wine absorbs a lot of oxygen and can develop optimally.
