Imagine you have a kitchen studio, preferably in Munich, preferably directly opposite a renowned theatre, from which a good audience regularly flocks, looking directly into the bright studio with the extra-large glass front. Then it wouldn’t be so unlikely that many a couple would stroll to the shop window of the studio after an inspiring evening at the opera and say things like: “Look, darling, I could well imagine such a kitchen here!” Mark Duggan has such a great location. His Poggenpohl studios in two of the most beautiful areas of Munich – in the Bogenhausen district and in Maxvorstadt – are among the top addresses in the Isar metropolis when
it’s about luxury kitchens. www.duggan.de
More than ever, Mark Duggan is following his philosophy that customers in the premium segment want more than just a kitchen. They want that certain something. And as a matter of course, he has other tips ready in addition to a kitchen recommendation.
A kitchen always includes a dining room, he explains. “In this case, it’s the EssZimmer by Käfer at BMW Welt. In one of Munich’s most renowned Michelin-starred restaurants, Bobby Bräuer and his team have been entertaining their guests for ten years now. Since then, the gourmet restaurant has been a highlight in Munich’s gastronomy scene for me.”
Out of Munich? “I can’t resist and follow the goings-on in the semi-open, glazed kitchen of the Michelin-starred restaurant Johanns in Waldkirchen, Upper Bavaria, with curiosity and interest.” And if you don’t just want to look into the kitchen, you can enjoy a spectacular view of the Bavarian Forest, Austria and the Czech Republic in the light-flooded restaurant. The décor, on the other hand, is completely un-Bavarian. Only hints of wooden beams in an ensemble of concrete, glass and modern furniture create a cosy parlour feel-good atmosphere – all very stylish!
Traditionally international: “For my wife and me, Il Gallo d’Oro in Funchal, Madeira, is always something special. I think one of the reasons for this is the perfect Iberian-Mediterranean cuisine on offer here. Regional products are boldly combined and refined into innovative dishes. My tip: try the Portuguese scarlet prawn, which is also loved by the locals.”
