After all, the Bavarian capital is considered the northernmost city in Italy. Lydia Forte, daughter of British hotelier Sir Rocco Forte and Group Director of Rocco Forte Hotels for Food Beverage, has already successfully established the renowned concept there, at the Villa Igiea and the Hotel de Russie in Rome. Now it is being realised outside Italy for the first time and promises to be a new highlight in the Munich restaurant scene.
Florio at The Charles Hotel stands for uncomplicated yet sophisticated cuisine that conveys the Italian attitude to life with every bite – according to the philosophy of Italian culinary icon Fulvio Pierangelini. Florio is not just about excellent Italian food, but above all a place to come together, enjoy life and savour the pleasures of life. Over a glass of wine from the curated menu, the delicate prints and drawings of plants and fruit against the moss-green linen wallpaper form a pleasant contrast with the warm rust and brown tones and inevitably transport you to one of those iconic Italian films of the 50s and 60s. Or, to put it in Fulvio’s words: “Florio is an attitude, a lifestyle and captures a special mood”.
The atmosphere is very special in general, not least because of the floor-to-ceiling windows and the real olive trees that find their place here and create an Italian flair. Authenticity is a top priority here; it’s all about genuine craftsmanship and savoir-faire. The ravioli with truffles, for example, are as delicate as you would only find in Sicily. The veal cheek braises in Nero d’Avola and the hamachi sushi melts in the mouth. After all, Fulvio Pierangelini had a restaurant in Tuscany with two Michelin stars, right next to Lydia Forte’s grandmother’s house. La Famiglia is not just an empty phrase here, but a living reality – because none other than Fulvio cooked Lydia’s wedding menu.
“With Florio , I want to offer a kitchen, that is timeless and unbound, but with a contemporary approach. It is an expression of savoir-faire, independent of stereotypes and trends”, Fulvio Pierangelini
The dolce vita feeling is not only reflected in the interior, Florio ‘s menu also impresses with selected, high-quality products and dishes that are simple but cooked to perfection. As there is an equal focus on sourcing regional products, the menu varies seasonally and offers absolute signature dishes , such as the artichoke alla Romana, there are always new dishes, characterised by the harvest of the season.
“I am very pleased, opening Florio for the first time outside of Italy and I can ‘t think of a better location than Munich, where Italian culture and cuisine areso appreciated,” Lydia Forte
The Florio restaurant is a setting that pays homage to the Italian lifestyle. Nestled in the lush greenery of the Botanical Gardens in the centre of Munich, an invitation to spend time with friends, take a break from everyday life and savour the culinary creations from the pen of by Fulvio Pierangelini – and feel the spirit of the Dolce Vita.
