It's that time of year again: Valentine's Day on February 14th. If you're not in the mood for romance and togetherness, you'll find numerous other ideas for a varied day in Berlin here under #BERLIN.

Who says it always has to be a romantic dinner or a dreamy breakfast? If you’re a culture lover, you might as well watch a play. Or go to the museum … or… or…

DISCOVERING THE BEAUTY OF THINGS
The new exhibition at the Bröhan Museum is dedicated to the beautiful things, the Belles Choses. It shows the most beautiful sides of French Art Nouveau with its floral shapes and playful but elegant patterns. So if you like to look at beautiful things and appreciate the richness of design of that time, the Bröhan Museum is the right place for you. www.broehan-museum.de

FEELING LIKE ROYALTY
After a visit to the Bröhan Museum, you can simply walk across the street to the imposing Charlottenburg Palace and stroll through the palace park. Even if the flowers are not yet in full bloom in February, it is still worth taking a walk through the magnificent grounds. Or you can visit the castle with its enchanting galleries and collections. www.spsg.de/schloesser-gaerten/objekt/schlossgarten-charlottenburg/

FANCY HIGH CULTURE IN THE EVENING?

The Berliner Philharmoniker will also make your heart beat really high on Valentine’s Day. A secret declaration of love to the violinist Paul Kochanski is the heartfelt Violin Concerto by Karol Szymanowski. Together with the Berliner Philharmoniker, the gifted violist Lisa Batiashvili will perform this poetic piece, followed by Richard Strauss’s Symphonia domestica.

Franz Liszt
Les Préludes, Symphonic Poem No. 3
Karol Szymanowski
Concerto for Violin and Orchestra No. 1 op. 35
Lisa Batiashvili – violin
Richard Strauss
Symphonia domestica op. 53

FALLING IN LOVE
FALLING | IN LOVE – there is probably no better title for a show on Valentine’s Day. The grandiose staging in the Friedrichstadt-Palast glitters and sparkles with thousands of Swarovski stones. Leave the gray reality behind and plunge headlong into the garden of love with the poet You. www.palast.berlin/show/falling-in-love/

TRY SOMETHING SWEET
If you’re not into the classic box of chocolates and would rather try something new, you should make your way to one of the many cool cafés in the capital. Homemade Baumstriezel, churros, original waffles or delicious cookies melt in your mouth and fine pieces of cake make you and your loved ones full and happy.
